Ready, Set… EduCon

Ready, Set… EduCon

Tomorrow I leave  for EduCon 2.3, this will be my 4th EduCon. I have been there since the beginning, and I would not miss it for the world.  I attend other conferences, sit in sessions and try to absorb all that is shared with me.  It is when I get in the hallway, chat with others and have time to think that I can I finally process what I sat through.  EduCon to me is one long hallway conversation, filled…

BLC 2010 – Notes

BLC 2010 – Notes

I attended BLC 2010 last week and am finally getting a chance to digest and process all the information I have gathered. The following are some notes I took on some of the sessions I attended. They are pretty raw and I only have added a few thoughts since the conference. I really need to explore some of these more fully. There is just so much to learn and think about I just want to do it all and it…

EduCon Reflections

EduCon Reflections

I am attending EduCon 2.2 and just getting ready to start the final day.  Yesterday I had the privilege to facilitate a conversation with Danja Mahoney and Michael Springer, and chat with some of the smartest most thoughtful educators around. Our topic was Subversive PD: Creating a culture of collaboration to bring educators into the 21st century.  Our focus was looking for strategies that work, in the absence of administrative and teacher support and/or awareness, to foster professional growth. Are…

EduCon 2.2

EduCon 2.2

Tomorrow I head off to EduCon 2.2 this will be my third trip. The first conference was something of an experiment with about 75+ attendees.  The conference grew out of a conversation and the conversation has not ended.  This year there will be 500 participants, reaching full capacity. It will be a lot more crowded, I hope it brings richer deeper conversations.  We shall see.  This time around I will also be facilitating a session, I was privileged to be…

MassCUE Conference

MassCUE Conference

I am looking forward to MassCUE this week.  The annual conference is undergoing a bit of a revival.  It is co-sponsored with MASS (Massachusetts Associations of School Superintendents).  It has a new location, Gillette Stadium, and it has sold out.  A good sign. Wednesday’s Keynote, The Global Achievement Gap, is by Tony Wagner. Thursday’s Keynote, The Changing Face of Literacy and Learning In 1-1 Laptop Classrooms: The New Literacies of Online Reading Comprehension, is given by Donald Lue, j. Gregory…

Possible Gifts or Possible Problems

Possible Gifts or Possible Problems

The opening keynote at BLC09 was given by Benjamin Zander and my main take away was to live a life that radiates possibilities. I was thinking how teachers look forward to the new school year as a time to be excited, a time of possibility. They have spent the summer thinking of ways to improve upon their craft, looking at new lessons and strategies, and searching for new resources.  Just before the first day with students they receive their class…

Post NECC Thoughts

Post NECC Thoughts

I did not have an opportunity to attend NECC this year. I did support the DEN in SL‘s session, watched a good deal online and followed posts on twitter and plurk.  Though I learned some new things and been given ideas to ponder it just is not the same.  I am a proponent of distance learning and love that I could ‘attend’ after a fashion, I do not think anything beats the face to face interaction.  Learning and inspiration are…
