Google Training

Google Training

I have been quite busy preparing for a major PD initiative in supporting an ever expanding number of Chromebooks and more innovated use of Google Tools.  I have to say Google has created a large number of pathways to learn it’s apps and to test ones knowledge.  I like the idea of tests and certification on these tools.  It would be a wonderful thing if schools using google apps required their teachers and new hires to be google certified teachers.  It would be good way to know they have basic tech skills which are still lacking amongst many educators.

  1. Great idea, Beth! Teachers are often slow to implement technological advances. These tools will transform learning and enhance the quality of education. You are making my dream of a paperless classroom come true.

  2. Hello, I’m a teacher but have been working in early intervention for almost two years now so I have not been working in a traditional classroom setting right now. I’m taking a class about Communication Tools that can be used in Proficiency-Based Education to learn more and keep up what teaching strategies and styles are currently being used at the elementary and older level.

But I’m a little behind on some of the new google apps. Can you clarify what a google certification would be/mean?

  3. Hi Kristen,
Google certification would signal to your school that you have the skill necessary to use many of tools need to create content and foster communication and collaboration. I spend a lot of time supporting teachers in the basics on how to use google apps. It would be WONDERFUL to actually have teachers who are very good at using these tools.

  4. An awesome challenge to educators and learners. Change is a great thing and we must embrace. it would be great to see us all at par.

  5. I consider myself fairly up to date on most technology, especially if it can be useful in the classroom, but I have never heard of Goolge Certification before. I enjoyed reading your blog and appreciate you sharing this idea.
Are you Google Certified? Do you know many teachers that are? Is it truly helpful?

    Thanks for your input!

  6. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog, especially this entry. I consider myself fairly competent with technology (comparatively), especially when it comes to what I can use in my classroom. However, this is a new topic for me.
Do you know teachers who are certified?
    How does it help them?
Would it be a good use of my time?
    Thanks so much!

  7. Hi Jenn,

I do know a few teacher show have Google Certification. I find it helps them be very confident in their use of technology and working in a digital learning environment. Their knowledge helps them to streamline their workflow and work more efficiently. Two teachers I know believe it gave them an edge in their recent job searches, as the schools they applied to just adopted Chromebooks and they were worried how to help get their teachers on board and these two new hires are already to roll.

  8. Thank you for your response. It sounds like something I really need to consider. I am not looking for a new job, but I do want to make sure I stay up to date and marketable. I will do some research. If I pursue it I will keep you informed of my progress! Thanks again!
