Gearing up for MassCUE

Gearing up for MassCUE

Getting ready to attend MassCUE this week. Tuesday I’ll be going to the pre-conference Day of Discovery. There will be about 10 teachers from my district attending this event. Discovery always does a great job of inspiring teachers. I am really looking forward to what they have to offer. The main conference follows, Wesley Fryer will be the keynote speaker on Wednesday and Hall Davidson will be the keynote speaker on Thursday. I will be presenting on Wednesday. I never…

Growing the DEN in SL

Growing the DEN in SL

The high light for me at NECC was to meet the DEN in SL leadership council and some of our SL community and present with the LC. We only had an hour to share everything and we could not do it all. The list of links below takes you to video, and some posts about our session. If you were there or know of a post regarding it please leave a comment and share. One of the objectives of our…

Networks and NECC

Networks and NECC

I returned from NECC to face a household of guests. It is similar to leaving a movie 1/2 way through and being dropped in the middle of another one. I am a little dazed and confused. I attended a variety of sessions some great, some not so great. I wish they came with a label such as introduction or advanced. The best part of NECC for me was meeting and talking to people. I meet some of my network face-2-face…

Packing for NECC

Packing for NECC

I am trying to get ready for NECC. I am very excited and am sure I will forget something. This is my first NECC and I have been trying to follow all the advice from the NECC Ning. Bring business cards, pre-printed labels, power strip, comfy shoes, sturdy tote. I have spent the day printing up all my confirmations, clearing out my readers, email and getting all the little things done at home so I can focus on meeting friends…

End of One Year and Planning the Next

End of One Year and Planning the Next

The last few weeks of school are overwhelming for me. It is as if everyone is racing for the finish line. Between work and home I am exhausted. At home I have a son ending his fifth grade career and a daughter ending 8th grade. There are final band concerts, award ceremonies and recognition (aka graduation) ceremonies. Not to mention the last Girl Scout, youth group, running club and skating club culminating events. It is far to much to really…

Echo Chamber or Fermentation Tank

Echo Chamber or Fermentation Tank

During my EduCon 2.0 experience I participated in many discussions. In one such side conversation we bantered about the idea that we are all just part of an echo chamber. I have come across this idea before in the various blogs I read. It is the notion that we are all just preaching to the choir. To some extent I think this is true, but we all must step out of the chamber and into our districts and schools. Here…

Awesome

Awesome

Awesome is the only way to describe my feeling about EduCon 2.0. It was a conference focused on learning and the people who play a role in the process; students and educators. There were no vendors, nor products or tools demonstrated. It did not mean that participants did not learn about twitter, or voice thread or flicker, but they learned about them from a conversation here or there. It was a conference born of a group of people wondering “what…
