Playing with Flickr

Keta Erosion.jpg Originally uploaded by bknittle. Today I took some time to play with flicker. I have had an account for a while but never had time to explore the features from a teacher’s perspective. After watching the presentation on flickr by Jeff Utecht at the K12 Conference Online, I decided to try out the map features. Like Jeff I have worked as an overseas educator. I have lived or travelled in many places; Ghana, Jordan, Korea, Thailand, England, Syria,…

Linerider – some fun

Linerider – some fun

A simple experiment in art, created for one student’s illustration course, Line Rider is a unique online toy which allows users to hurtle a hapless scarf-clad man down steep hills of dizzying height, huge jumps, and end over end flips with just a pencil. The Tech Savvy Educator I needed a good laugh and really enjoyed this. I’ll think about the educational implacations later. Thanks Ben ! Blogged with Flock

Living Life on Line

Living Life on Line

Ross is the prototypical digital native. He says, “We all know people…who have all this content that they are not publishing stored on their computers. We’re trying to persuade them to live their lives online.” If this is how young people think, is it any wonder that their digital immigrant teachers don’t understand them? Talkr

Talkr

In the spirit of universal design I have created a free Talkr account which allowed me to install a Talkr plugin. This plugin turns my blog posts to mp3 audio files. It is a computer generated voice but is not to bad to listen to. This allows people to subscribe to the audio feed, and listen to them on their mp3 player, or right from the blog post. This is a pretty amazing tool. Let me know what you think.

The K12 Online Conference

The K12 Online Conference

I have spent the day attending the K12 Online Conference. I am finding a little bit for everyone. I am most taken with the Basic/Advance training category. There are great presentations on how to use and integrate web tools in the classroom. These presentations include movies and resources. I wish these resources were available to me when I began my navigation of the read/write web, I must say I have learned a great deal today and hope to share this…

The Wired Generation?

The Wired Generation?

My son, age 9, is a gamer. He spends time each day on the computer playing games (Club Penguin, WebKidz and World of War Craft), quite a range. He also is a Nano user and downloads music from iTunes. He lives in a wireless house, all of our computers can move around the house. On day he had to come to school with me. He set up the laptop while I did a few things. I came back and he…
