MassCUE/METAA Technology Leadership Symposium - Creating Digital Text March 13, 2012

There many changes facing schools, educators and students for example: 1:1 devices, adapting to the new common core curriculum and developing more student centered learning environments. As schools and teachers meet to adopt and adapt to these changes attention should be paid to the new ways of accessing, using and creating digital content. Digital books for example can be created to support diverse learners, are media rich, and highly interactive. These new texts allow schools and teachers to provide materials that target instructional needs. In this session we will look at the dynamic areas of eBooks and eReaders with particular attention to creating content for the iPad. We will also explore organizational strategies that support schools and teachers as they become creators of content and not just consumers.

EduCon 2.3 January 30, 2011

Same as it ever was, but does it have to be. Presented along with Leo Brehm. What if you changed one thing per week in your classroom to improve learning? What would it be? How large or small would this change have to be to make a difference in student learning? Would arranging the furniture differently produce a positive outcome? Does using a wiki as my web page promote higher order thinking? Our industry is in a constant state of change, navigating, understanding, and leading this change can be difficult to do in our learning communities. These changes are centered around improving learning by engaging learners in activity rich, inquiry driven instruction while addressing individual student needs and the traditional educational environmental challenges. Many of us overwhelmed by the prospect of getting from where we are to where we want to be.

An Introduction to eBooks and eReaders January 26, 2011

This workshop was for the MassCUE SIG: Universal Design for Learning , and presented with Julia Colby. This session is part 1 of a 3 part series. An eBook is an electronic version of a traditional print book that can be read by using a personal computer or an eBook reader. You can purchase an eBook on diskette or cd, but the most popular method today is to purchase a downloadable file of the eBook from a web site to be read from the userís computer or reading device. An eBook reader or eBook device is an electronic device designed primarily for the purpose of reading digital books, periodicals, and other publications. Just as there are many eBook formats there are many eReaders. During this workshop we will explore some of the more popular devices.
