The following are some notes I took on some of the sessions I attended.  They are pretty raw and I only have added a few thoughts since the conference.  I really need to explore some of these more fully.  There is just so much to learn and think about I just want to do it all and it is pretty difficult for me to prioritize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Darren Kuropatwa &#8211; Design Matters<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dkuropatwapresentations.pbworks.com\/Design-Matters-at-BLC-2010\">http:\/\/dkuropatwapresentations.pbworks.com\/Design-Matters-at-BLC-2010<\/a><br \/>\nSlides and Audio are available on the wiki above<\/p>\n<p>Darren&#8217;s session are always though proving and inspiring.  The focus on this session is how design, instruction, and presentation are essential to learning and student engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Darren recommend the following sites and books.<br \/>\n<a href=\" http:\/\/www.colr.org\/ \">Colr<\/a> website\u00a0 to help with design of presentations<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/brainrules.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brain Rules<\/a> &#8211; Book<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/heathbrothers.com\/madetostick\/\" target=\"_blank\">Made to Stick<\/a> &#8211; Book<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nap.edu\/openbook.php?record_id=6160\" target=\"_blank\">How People Learn<\/a> &#8211; Book<\/p>\n<p>My big take away was how to manage a back channel and how to get keynote and PowerPoint to tweet information. I found a nice overview of the process <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c4lpt.co.uk\/140Learning\/presentation.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brad Ovenell-Carter  &#8211; The Myth of the Digital Native<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ovenell-carter.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brad&#8217;s Blog<\/a><\/p>\n<p>People get overwhelmed! Focus on the process \u2013 not the tools<br \/>\nHe suggests adding links to browser tool bar that list folders by process and then a FEW tools that do this.<\/p>\n<p>This is a switch in thinking (marketing) that my district has been trying to make how to shift the focus form tools to process and to streamline and organize the tools we do have. There are only so many online word processors and presentation applications you can use.<\/p>\n<p>Brad&#8217;s session helped to coleus our thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few suggestions of groupings from Brad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Research<\/strong><br \/>\nYo-Link, Data Bases (those from the library) ,Google \u2013 Advanced Search, Alta Vista<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Produce<\/strong><br \/>\nGoogle apps<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Publish<\/strong><br \/>\nBlog, Wiki, you-tube, Google sites, flicker, glogster<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Discuss<\/strong><br \/>\nEdmodo, Moodle, Ning<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Manage<\/strong><br \/>\ncalendar, todo list, rss reader<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angela Maiers &#8211; Fluency 3.0<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.angelamaiers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Her blog<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/angelamaiers\/fluency-30-angela-maiers-04072010\" target=\"_blank\">Presentation Notes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did not take any notes here I was focused on what Angela was saying.  Please look at her materials &#8211; they are well worth your time.<\/p>\n<p>Dean&#8217;s session had a similar theme and since I had heard Angela I was able to get some notes down in his session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dean Shareski \u2013 Google or You? Who Would You Rather Control Your Digital Identity.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ideasandthoughts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">His blo<\/a>g<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/shareski\/you-or-google-who-controls-your-identity\" target=\"_blank\">Slides from presentation<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What is your identity?<\/p>\n<p>You need to manage your profile and school<br \/>\nWho manages our school district&#8217;s rep?<\/p>\n<p>Places to look up your profile<br \/>\n\u2022\tKlout<br \/>\n\u2022\tgoogle profile &#8211; set that up<br \/>\n\u2022\tspezify<br \/>\n\u2022\tpersona MIT<br \/>\n\u2022\trate my teacher<\/p>\n<p>We do have a permanent record, after all.<br \/>\nWhen you are Googled do they find you and is it good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t not play &#8211; once you are online you play<\/p>\n<p>It used to be that life was \u201cprivate by default  public with effort\u201d<br \/>\nbut now we are \u201cpublic by default  and private with effort\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People who were raised in the first environment do not get the privacy standards of the new environment.<\/p>\n<p>We need to become clickable, need to market and advocate for yourself<\/p>\n<p>On Dean&#8217;s blog page what others say- &#8220;it always feel a bit weird posting good stuff about yourself, but to prove I have some credibility in what I say, read what other say about me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Purchase Domain name for yourself, and your children<br \/>\nOne School gets domains as graduation present.<\/p>\n<p>Bud the Teacher  says if you are concerned about what people may find then maybe you should be a better person<\/p>\n<p>Digital is different &#8211; easily copied easily shared &#8211; info shared quickly without thought &#8211; action is instant<br \/>\nDigital is easily edited and viewable by millions<\/p>\n<p>In a newspaper we have pictures and names of students and it is considered okay BUT online it is not okay-  \u201cdo only creepy people read the internet?\u201d<br \/>\nnewspapers are now online as well  and searchable so it is still okay for students full names to be in newspapers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are <a href=\"delicious.com\/shareski\/internetsafety\" target=\"_blank\">links to research<\/a> about Internet safety \u2013 some thing to look out when considering district policy.
